"Who Framed Roger Rabbit" was the very first movie I ever watched in a movie theater. It was the perfect movie for an 8 year old to see on the big screen for the first time as it offers a rich dichotomy of animated meets live characters and scenes.
Roger, a happy-go-lucky rabbit, stays true to his character, even when trying to find out if his wife, Jessica, the light of his life, is secretly playing pattycake with someone else. To make matters worse, Roger becomes a fugitive after being named the prime suspect in the murder of Toon Town owner Marvin Acme. Ironically, he has to rely on the help of a "human" detective, Eddie Valient, who grudgingly does not trust toons ever since one killed his brother.
The cartoon characters in this movie are so great. I love the laughing hyenas, who are the cronies of Judge Doom. If they laugh to hard, they die. Judge Doom warns them, "Stop that laughing! Have you forgotten what happened last time?! If you don't stop laughing, you're gonna end up DEAD, just like your idiot hyena cousins!"
And Roger Rabbit's character is super lovable to an 8 year old. Even though he has to worry about jail time and a possible affiar, he is mostly trying to brighten Eddie's world and get him to lighten up some.
At 8yrs, it is easy to see the world through Roger's eyes, but later in life, it becomes a bit more of a challenge to stay true to character! Even if we slip, though, I am sure we are all grateful for the "Rogers" in our lives!
